I am sooo tired this Easter weekend! You??
This week, making school lunches, I was reminded of rest while I sawed away at a tomato with a dull knife. I was in a hurry and I just wanted the job done. So I kept going.
When this knife was new, it was fab. It used to work brilliantly. Then, not.
Saw, saw, saw.
I was saving time! Getting on to the next thing! Powering through.
But I wasn't.
So I took a second, found the knife sharpener my sister bought me when I was in Phoenix last month, and sharpened my knife.
Such a simple tool, such an inexpensive fix, such a huge result.
Slice!
Relief.
Twenty-nine years ago, Steven Covey wrote about sharpening the saw in The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. The lesson has been around forever. So why do we forget it?
Why do we forget to rest?
I have to remind myself a million times: rest helps me go faster. Rest recalibrates my creativity and -- frankly -- makes me a much nicer family member to be around.
Nobody loves a martyr, even one who gets the job done.
So for me, this weekend is all about rest.
And chocolate.
And family, peace, renewal. Happy Easter long weekend, everyone! As always, have some fun...and be fun to live with!
Love, Catherine x

Okay, try this for maximum fun! My gorgeous friend, Claire, and I thought it would be a great idea to catch tadpoles for our boys and surprise them after school. Her kids are little, mine are teenagers. So we went tadpole hunting but we forgot a NET. You guys, we nearly peed laughing. We almost fell in the pond. The tadpoles were soooo fast! And I felt 8 years old again. It was exactly like when I ran into my high school quarterback: a complete time-machine moment. (And just because I know how good she is...if you need business / life coaching in Sydney or via Skype, Claire is awesome. She offers free 30 minute trial sessions. And she would (almost) fall in a pond for you.)
Finally, here's something you might need. I learned an amazing life hack this week: to remove stubborn labels, heat the label with a blowdryer first, then peel. Worked so well on my new Easter platter. You're welcome!! :)
One last thing: all my fabulous faux jewellery in this post ("diamonds" and "pearls") are from a shop in the mall, in reach for every budget. Cute, huh?
