My son started driving in December. When we were filling in the hours in his book, this photo flipped out of my wallet and onto the page. Honestly, it did. Here is Luke, five months old and in a bunny suit. Now he's sixteen and the bunny has turned lethal.
He's learning.
When I got back from riding with him the first time, the conversation went like this:
DAD: How did it go?
LUKE: Fine.
DAD: Really???
LUKE: Well, Mum assumed the AIRPLANE BRACE POSITION for most of it.
Bracing ourselves or not, there is no way around learning. We just have to begin.
When I started writing, I talked about beginning here. (It's a funny...um, slightly embarrassing...story but it's worth reading.)
I don't know about you, but for me, one of the hardest things to accept is that expertise takes time. Cue my writing journey. Many of you have asked me lately, so here's the cryptic update: it's going well and I hope to have more news to share in 2017. :)
But it has taken time.
Nothing has unfolded in the way I thought it would. Things are good. Things are promising. I'm learning so much. Doors are starting to open. But in 2016 I spent a lot of time doing this:
And in 2017, I want to try more of this. More flow. More downstream. More moving with the tide, instead of swimming against it.
It's not a great photo, but you get the idea. Are you with me? Ready to flow more, fight upstream less?
Whatever I learn, I promise to share. And if you have a few thoughts on flow versus struggle, I'd love to learn from you...
Thanks for reading! I hope something wonderful happens to you this week.
