Hi everyone! Let me bring you up to speed from last week. :)
I was thinking about what it meant to 'get out of my own way.' To me, it means this: stop waiting and start doing. Stop blocking myself and start taking action.
But here's the problem.
If we dive in and 'white knuckle it,' if we start out with a mindset that 'this is going to be hard but I'll push through,' then we're working against ourselves, right?
We're starting from a disadvantage.
We're forcing ourselves upstream.
Yes, we can do anything through sheer force of will, but it's hard. This year, I'm trying to find a way to live and accomplish my goals without the struggle. So here's what I'm experimenting with.
I'm DOING this one simple thing instead
- Before taking any action, I get into a helpful mindset first.
- I get myself happy first. Then I start.
How??
It's so easy. Do something (anything) you love BEFORE you start the hard thing. Even if it's just for a few minutes.
Scatter some joy on yourself.
First, scatter joy. Then work.
It's so much better. I'm finding that if I start work happy, my work flows. I bet it's the same for you.
Have the best week!
PS. This also works really well for kids. As in "You have to do X, but let's take 5 minutes FIRST and do your favourite thing, Y..."
