So at a dinner party this week, we got talking about the whole idea of fighting upstream or flowing down in 2017.
Our friend and personal trainer, Richard, made a comment. Seriously, guys, it felt like jumper cables to my heart. This is it:
I've been thinking ... what does that mean exactly?
I think it's this: we're in our own way when we block ourselves from growing.
To grow, we need to STOP doing a lot of stuff:
- STOP gathering information endlessly
- STOP saying 'I don't know'
- STOP wasting energy on worry
But most important of all:
- STOP waiting for someone else or external events to inspire, motivate or change things.
It reminds me of a photo I took of this guy in a cafe. I loved his t-shirt. Remember what DEUS EX MACHINA means? GOD FROM THE MACHINERY...where in a Greek tragedy, the whole problem would be resolved (unrealistically) by the gods descending onto the stage from a mechanical crane and fixing everything up. Magic!
Kind of ridiculous, right?
Sometimes we do this, too. (Or at least I do...)
We drink coffee and talk and wait for our DEUS EX MACHINA to show up and change everything.
And we get in our own way.
So what's the fix?
Stop waiting.
Then do one simple thing BEFORE you start moving.
I'll write about the one thing next week and you can tell me what you think.
Stay tuned!!
