A friend had to deal with some bad news yesterday. She drove on a winter highway in the dark and the wind to sit in a hospital and watch someone she loved go through the most terrible pain you can imagine.
When bad (and very bad) things happen, what can we do?
We can love the person in front of us.
No matter how much we want to, we can’t erase horrible circumstances...or make them un-happen.
Sometimes we can’t even reach the person who is hurting.
But we can love the person right in front of us, and the next one, and the next one and never stop.
It’s all we can do.
Sometimes it has to be enough.
Q. What can you do when something goes wrong?
A. Love the person in front of you.
